CPD Requirements

How to navigate the new CPD framework

1. What you need to know:

  • Every doctor must choose a CPD home e.g., RACGP, ACRRM.
  • AMAC is NOT a CPD home, but we are a CPD Provider.
  • You must log a minimum of 50hrs of CPD annually.
  • You must also complete an annual Professional Development Plan – both the RACGP and ACRRM provide free templates for these to their members.
  • CPD must be relevant to your individual scope of practice.
  • CPD includes activities related to Culturally Safe Practice, Health inequities, Professionalism, and Ethical Practice.
  • CPR or ALS training is required by the RACGP and ACRRM respectively for their Fellows.

 

2. CPD is split across three activity categories, each with minimum required hours:

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Acupuncture specific CPD:

  • Is a subset of the general requirements – i.e., they are not additional hours to the 50hrs stated above.
  • Calculated each years of this triennium (2026-2028)
  • You are required to have participated in a minimum of 12hrs of CPD related to acupuncture, each year of the triennium.
  • A minimum 4hrs of educational activity, 4hrs reviewing performance, and 4hrs of measuring outcomes activities comprise the minimum 12hrs of acupuncture specific CPD.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4. CPD monitoring:

  • AHPRA is now the governing body responsible for monitoring acupuncture specific CPD requirements.
  • Doctors will use their CPD home’s reporting systems to upload all CPD hours, including acupuncture specific CPD.
  • It is recommended that doctors keep a record of all their CPD (inclusive of acupuncture specific CPD) hours and evidence in case of an audit by AHPRA.
  • AMAC will endeavour to provide a range of acupuncture specific CPD activities available to all attendees of our educational events – including our Part 1 and Part 2 Courses, State workshops, and the Annual Federal AGM and Conference.

 

5. Acupuncture CPD beyond 2025

  • From January 2026 AMAC will align with the Medical Board of Australia’s CPD registration standards and require acupuncture specific CPD on an annual basis.

    A minimum of 12hrs of acupuncture related CPD is required every year, spread across the 3 CPD activity types: 4 hrs of educational activity, 4hrs of reviewing performance, and 4 hours of measuring outcomes.

    These hours will remain a subset of the minimum 50hrs CPD required annually for all doctors.
